FIVE STARS FOR NATIONAL FLEET ORGANISATION

Barnsley's Director of Public Health, Elizabeth Shassere, presents the 5 star award to Archbold Logistics Chief Executive, Xavier Archbold

A national company is hoping to set an example to fleet operators across the country after being awarded a maximum five star rating for the environmental performance of their fleet. Archbold Logistics Ltd, the UK-wide provider of transport, warehousing and logistics to business achieved the highest possible rating from the ECO (Efficient and Cleaner Operations) Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme.

The free scheme, which is the first of its kind in the UK, recognises fleet operators who are using lower polluting vehicles and effective fuel management. ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme was launched in January this year by South Yorkshire’s air quality campaign, Care4Air, as part of the drive to improve the quality of air across the region.

Archbold Logistics Ltd signed up a large number of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) to the scheme and was awarded the five stars rating after having their individual vehicles and overall road transport operation assessed to recognise levels of operational and environmental performance.

Xavier Archbold, Chief Executive at Archbold Logistics said: “We are incredibly proud to become a five star member from the off. We have always worked hard to perform well environmentally and now, using the ECO Stars benchmarks, we can see that we have met or exceeded most criteria.

“Archbold Logistics was established in 1918 and has always been a forward looking organisation. We are always looking ahead to provide ever more efficient and cost effective logistic solutions and over the past few years reducing our carbon emissions and being fuel efficient has become increasingly important to us.”

Xavier added: “To maximise fuel efficiency and keep emissions as low as possible we endeavour to cut out mileage at a planning level. This means we are able to make savings on 100% of emissions. We also employ a driver trainer who ensures our drivers are operating in as fuel efficient a way as possible. I am sure this has helped us to reach the maximum five stars with ECO Stars. We are delighted to be awarded with five stars from such a prestigious Scheme.”
