The Energy Saving Trust (www.energysavingtrust.org.uk) is a government funded organisation set up to help people save energy and money in the home and through transport. Their advice is free and impartial and specifically catered to the individual. The service is delivered both through outreach activity and in our contact centre. They have improved some of their free services following some newly received funding. Their contact centre is free to phone and can help with personal transport planning, provide information on public transport and answer questions on low CO2 emitting vehicles. Likewise they are available for events (free of charge) and can give expert energy saving advice and refer people to energy saving measures.
The Energy Saving Trust is currently able to offer various introductory sessions until the end of March to more sustainable modes of travel. In particular they have ‘Smarter Driving’ lessons that can be provided free of charge to members of the public and organisations who demonstrate a commitment to cutting their transport carbon footprints. These lessons last 50 minutes and in that time the participant can learn driving techniques that will cut their fuel consumption by 15%. Besides this they have an eco-driving simulator that can demonstrate driving techniques that will help to reduce fuel consumption, which they are also able to provide free to companies. They can also offer free weekly travel passes as a ‘taster’ to people interested in leaving the car behind and giving public transport a go.
