The Department for Transport has launched an Evidence Request to freight and passenger transport operators. They are keen to gather views from vehicle operators on how emissions of harmful air pollutants from HGVs, buses and coaches could be best reduced. They are seeking as much data and real evidence as possible, on potential actions to improve air quality cost-effectively.
While air quality has improved in recent years, current levels of air pollution remain harmful to health in some locations, and road transport is known to be a significant contributor, particularly in urban areas. The Coalition Programme for Government states that the Government will work towards full compliance with European air quality standards.
The Evidence Request provides an opportunity to engage with Government policy making, share innovative thinking, and have your say on how Government and industry can work together to improve air quality. Responses to the consultation will help inform the Government’s approach to improving compliance with European standards, while it seeks to promote industry-led initiatives and build on best practice to prevent the need for future regulation.
If any ECO Stars members would like to contribute towards this work you can Download the Evidence Request on the Department’s ‘Consultation Hub’. The Evidence Request will close on 21 April. Any questions or comments can be sent to [email protected].
