An easy-to-use website has been launched to help public authorities and professional and private vehicle users choose the cleanest and most energy-efficient vehicles available.
The Clean Vehicle Portal aims to facilitate the implementation of the Clean Vehicle Directive (Directive 2009/33/EC of 23 April 2009, OJ L120,15.5.2009) in the European Member States. The directive requires the public sector to use their purchasing power to promote clean and energy-efficient vehicles. It thereby represents an important stepping stone to attaining the EU's 2020 goals on energy efficiency, CO2 emissions and renewable energies.
The portal aims at supporting all institutions procuring vehicles in the European Member States as well as legal entities and individuals who are interested in purchasing environmentally friendly vehicles and covers everything from passenger cars, light- and heavy-duty vehicles to buses. It provides reference data on vehicle life-cycle cost including the cost of environmental side effects in a manufacturer--neutral way (using internationally accepted vehicle test cycles).
