Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

img:Barnsley MBCBarnsley MBC are the first public sector fleet to become ECO Stars members. They are ambassadors for the scheme and are setting an excellent example to members from other operators. Barnsley MBC will be working together with the ECO Stars Team to progress further within the scheme by following a road map containing recommendations for further fleet replacement, for instance, replacing older vehicles for newer, cleaner models.

David Curry, Fleet Manager of Barnsley MBC comments: “Barnsley MBC has very effective fleet management policies and procedures in place and already has a fleet replacement programme, so the road map will only need to focus on encouraging further fleet replacement. We are happy to take the lead in the public sector and hope to encourage others to join up to a scheme that not only lowers harmful emissions, but saves each and every business that signs up money.”

We can see live on the internet how well our drivers and vehicles are performing across the country. We’ve proved that operating a fleet of lorries need not generate lots of horrible pollution and I hope this will help change people’s negative perceptions of haulage.” Ventura have been monitoring and reporting their CO2 and NOx emissions for the past 3 years (2006 to 2008 inc.). In this time they have reduced; mileage by 2.17% (646,110 KMs), CO2 by 3.59% (779 tonnes), and NOx by an impressive 40.9% (96 tonnes).
