Climate Change and Sheffield Schools

Sheffield City Council and Sheffield First (the citys Local Strategic Partnership) are committed to tackling climate change across the city by helping everyone reduce carbon emissions, adapt to the effects of climate change and increase awareness and understanding of the different climate change issues. In particular, they are supporting schools to take action against climate change through the Sheffield Eco-Schools Project.

Support for schools

Sheffield Eco-Schools Project

This project helps Sheffield schools to become Eco-Schools by supporting them to improve their environmental performance across a range of eco-topics. There is a dedicated project officer who can offer advice and has links with a wide variety of people and organisations who can help.

Climate Change and Sheffield Schools

The Project offers:

  • Advice and support tailored to your school
  • Introductions to specialists
  • Assistance with award applications
  • Help to promote your achievements to a wider audience
  • Opportunities to take part in national events

For more information about the project and how it can help your school, contact the Eco-Management Officer for Schools by email or phone 0114 273 46 51

Sheffield's Changing Climate - Whatever the Weather

The weather station at Weston Park Museum has been collecting data for Sheffield for over 125 years. Using this local information, it is clear that the climate is changing in the city. Find out more from the Whatever the Weather report.

Sheffield Local Climate Impact Profile

Climate change will mean that extreme weather events such as torrential rain, storms and heatwaves will occur more often. To help us understand how the city has been affected by these sorts of events in the past, a Local Climate Impact Profile (LCLIP) for the city has been produced. Work is underway on a short film that will help show the impacts of extreme weather and some of the ways we can adapt.
