Implementing Energy Monitors Works!
A proactive school in Doncaster is reaping the rewards of having Energy Monitors in place for over a year. In the first year of compulsory Display Energy Certificated Armthorpe Tranmoor Primary were already extremely energy aware emitting 132 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per year and received a 'D' rating which would be typical of the type of build and coal heating system for a school of this age. However, having put their own Energy Monitors in place during the previous 08/09 academic year the school have saved approximately 55 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide. Their current Display Energy Certificate now proudly states that the school has received a 'C' rating.
The school is taking part in the Active Students Award Scheme a student led carbon reduction initiative. The initial two stages of the certified scheme concentrate on reducing energy usage and raising environmental awareness whilst the Gold Award encourages students to explore sustainable environments in a wider perspective.
