Energy Saving Tips On Your Doorstep

September 2008

Care4Air is highlighting the new Neighbourhood Energy Officers working with the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre at Doncaster Council, who are helping residents across South Yorkshire to be more energy efficient and save money on their energy bills.

The Energy Officers work in local communities, offering free advice and support from the comfort of residents’ own homes - travelling to appointments on electric bikes, a low carbon form of transport.

Councillor Pat Haith, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Environment and Housing – West for Doncaster MBC said, “Sadly, there are too many residents struggling to pay ever increasing fuel bills, and living in cold and damp conditions that can lead to ill health. The new scheme will show residents how easy it is to save energy and reduce fuel bills and as one of Doncaster Council’s Energy Champions I am delighted that we are taking this advice direct to residents’ doorsteps.”

The services the Energy Officers will be promoting include:

Help to reduce fuel bills, including advice on eligibility for grants or discounts for loft and cavity wall insulation, condensing boilers and central heating.
Free fire safety check (conducted by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue).
Advice and help from the NHS for residents wanting to stop smoking.
Free benefit entitlement check for over 60s.

The project started in Doncaster and will soon be working in Rotherham and Barnsley. For more information on the Neighbourhood Energy Action scheme in your area, call free on 0800 028 1067.
