A very successful Green Fleet Management - Best Practice Seminar, supported by the Government's TransportEnergy initiative, was held at the Megacentre in Sheffield in March. Delegates could find out about the latest developments related to environmentally-friendly vehicles and about free advice and funding opportunities through Government supported schemes.

The TransportEnergy programme provides authoritative, independent information and advice to help implement sustainable transport initiatives.

For further information visit the website: www.transportenergy.org.uk/bestpractice.

As a result from the seminar and the very positive feedback - a Green Fleet Network has been launched. This network will address issues and problems local fleet managers are faced with. The aim is to find solutions and share best practice examples relating to Sheffield and the Air Quality Management Areas and to demonstrate how fleet managers can make savings by introducing environmentally measures.

The first steering group meeting was help on 4th May to discuss the terms of reference for the network and to agree on the agenda for the first Green Fleet Network meeting. The Network meeting is planned for the beginning of June and will address the Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) Standard and the training opportunities in Sheffield.

For more information on the Green Fleet Network, call Bernd Hoermann: 0777 647 6802.

Electric Vehicles

Petrol or diesel vehicles release harmful gases into the environment, which contribute to air pollution.

When you next get a new car consider buying an electric vehicle, as they’re more environmentally friendly and usually cheaper to run.

Walking Bus

Many schools now operate a Walking Bus which enables you get to school safely and in a more environmentally friendly way. If you would like further information on walking buses in your area please contact Mark Daly on 0114 2734655.
