Doncaster Council staff address their carbon balance
February 2007
spacer

“From little acorns great Oaks grow” could become the new motto of Doncaster Council following the initial carbon off set tree planting undertaken by personnel of the Natural Environment Section.

The planting was the result of an NES initiative that invited Council staff to take personal responsibility, via a voluntary contribution, to off set their transport carbon footprint.

The Deputy Mayor Margaret Ward and Councillor G Mullis who attended the planting at the Edlington Community Woodlands said: -

“A persons carbon footprint is mainly due the carbon dioxide produced by their use of transport either directly in the car or indirectly when, for example, travelling by air.

Carbon dioxide is contributing to the green house effect that is promoting global warming.

This innovative idea demonstrates the commitment of both individual staff members and the Council to reducing carbon emissions. In addition it will also deliver a more vibrant tree population for the Borough.”

It is anticipated that future campaigns shall be expanded to include the Council’s Partner Organisation’s and the Town’s Business community.

Further information about air quality and the activities of the Natural Environment Section can be found on the Doncaster Council website.
